Art Basel Week 2017 – Miami Beach, Florida

Miami Blog | Austin Harvey Photography of Fort Myers and Naples, Florida
I was so privileged to go to Art Basel in Miami in 2017 and is where I fell in love with the medium of photography. I brought my first camera with me there and loved the many different subjects and stories on display there. I missed out on the many satellite shows and events but spent the majority of my time on the main floor. I was in love with all of the neon light art that was there and how popular it was. The mixture of glasswork art with the bright neon colors make it such a fascinating way to make art.
I was very interested in abstract ideas and the texture that so many of the artworks displayed. The variety of textures in the sculptures was overwhelming and expected when there is just about every medium of artwork on display. The furniture and home décor was a great part of this because of the different lighting fixtures that encompassed that harsh shadows cast by them.
This was also my first real exposure to the finer art world up close. Most of my pictures from that day are so narrowly focused on a simple composition, shallow depth of field, texture, and vibrant colors. I loved that there was every color and form imaginable on display and it was an eye-opening experience for me as a new photographer.
